Deadline Approaches for Sexual Freedom Summit Blogger Scholarship Applications

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Woodhull Freedom Foundation has reminded bloggers that the deadline for scholarships to attend the 2016 Sexual Freedom Summit is this Sun., May 1. To be held Aug. 4-7 at the Hilton Mark Center in Alexandria, Va. near Washington D.C., the Summit is a conference focused on sexual freedom as a fundamental human right.

"A single voice can fill one space," said Ricci Levy, president and CEO of the Woodhull Freedom Foundation. "But when bloggers take that voice and share it, the message is magnified hundreds and even thousands of times over. Bloggers are social justice warriors, and we're grateful to the Freeman Foundation for giving us the means to make it easier for bloggers to be at the Summit. We look forward to receiving submissions and look forward to announcing the scholarship recipients on Jun. 1."

Thanks to a grant from the Freeman Foundation, bloggers attending the Sexual Freedom Summit may apply to receive one of ten $100 scholarships. Along with the scholarship, those selected will also receive a discount on the cost of registration.

Bloggers will be selected based on criteria that include readership traffic and social media followings, with special consideration given to those who represent marginalized identities and communities. Selected candidates will be notified via e-mail on or before Jun. 1.

The Woodhull Sexual Freedom Summit is now in its seventh year. A spokesperson for the event said, "The Summit is for everyone interested in sexual freedom, from activists, educators, students, attorneys and clinicians to people who are simply curious about how to make the world a freer place for all."

Topics featured in the Sexual Freedom Summit have included gender expression, reproductive justice, LGBT rights, polyamory, geriatric sexuality, sex education, religion, gender identities, mental health, condom use, policy trends, intellectual and developmental disabilities, consent and sex work, among others.
